Anthony Mackie is real!

Hearing Anthony Mackie's story on NPR was actually the inspiration for this blog. His realness, and humility is inspiring, especially when you consider his critically praised role in The Hurt Locker, or his role as Tupac Shakur in Notorious or opposite Eminem in 8-mile.

I thought to myself, what if the word gets out that its actually cooler to be a regular, humble down to earth human? Isn't the world already full of people who create problems for other people? I wonder why we glorify those celebrity folk who set the worst kind of example by having things like ridiculous riders and entourages.

Thank you Anthony Mackie for starting a fire in this woman's soul.

Halle Berry Keeps It Real? You decide.

How do we love Halle Berry? Let us count the ways:

1. We love her because she's thoughtful. See? She's taking flowers to a friend at the hospital. We don't know why her friend's in the hospital. Maybe it's something serious, like brain surgery. Or maybe her friend just had a particularly grueling facelift. We don't know. All we know for certain is that Halle's got their back.

2. We love her because she's beautiful, inside and out. Not only is she playing candystripe darling to the plastic surgery set, but she's dressed down while she's doing it. Ms. Berry doesn't need a fancy ball gown or some crazy stylist (ahem, Rachel Zoe) fussing with her hair; she is just plain old Halle, wearing the T-shirt she slept in and the jeans she also slept in. And which were apparently made for someone three feet taller. But still: pretty, right?

3. We love her because she's down to earth. Those other Hollywood hos, they're driving Lamborghinis and Ferraris and Bugattis, but Halle is content to schlep around in a last generation Lexus RX 350 -- the kind any spoiled brat could get for her overblown Sweet 16 extravaganza. We need some more of that in the Hills, yo.

I’m not going to lie… Chris Brown did keep it real …  I’m sure many celebs deserted him over his situation with Rihanna and it probably did include Usher… So the most respectful thing to do Chris Brown say’s is keep it cordial but when comes to friendship… ummm keep it moving!

TV Squad: "How celebrities keep it real"

There has been a lot of talk lately about the legitimacy of certain body parts amongst celebrities. Tyra Banks, for example, has spent a lot of time informing men and women alike that her breasts are, in fact, real. Recently, she even extended her breast authentication abilities to her guest Katherine McPhee. Once the exam was over, it was determined that Katherine, like Tyra, has not had breast augmentation surgery.

James Earl Jones is real!!

Imagine my surprise when I learned that James Earl Jones was functionaly mute for the bulk of his childhood. This from a man that is known by his distinctive voice, contagious laugh and larger-than-life persona in movies like Star Wars, Field of Dreams, Cry, the Beloved Country and my personal favorite, King Jaffe Joffer in Coming to America. And let's not forget all his powerful voiceover work in film such as The Lion King. All this from someone, who at the age of 5, developed a stutter so severe he refused to speak aloud. He remained functionally mute for eight years until he reached high school where a teacher at the Brethren schools started to help him with his stutter. He credits his high school teacher, Donald Crouch, who discovered he had a gift, with helping him him gain confidence and insisted he recite a poem in class each day. The rest as we know as history.

From such humble beginnings, we learn that sometimes our greatest weakness can be channeled into our biggest asset.
